Your Glasgow Museum and Edinburgh tour starts in Glasgow George Square where you’ll meet your driver. Setting the tone for the rest of the day, this central location is home to iconic buildings and statues. This includes monuments of Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott amongst many other local heroes.
A short walk away, another unmissable emblem is the horse statue Glasgow, also known as The Duke of Wellington. Don’t be surprised if he has a cone on his head – it’s all part of the local humour!
Ready for your next adventure? Get ready, because Edinburgh Castle beckons.
The 45-mile trip is best enjoyed from the comfort of your private car. One of the most spectacular castles near Glasgow, this legendary fortress boasts a fascinating history dating back to 12th century. Surviving sieges and various occupations, it sits on top of a historic rock, integral to the city skyline.
Back to Glasgow
All castled-out, it’s time to head back, and tour three of the best museums in the area.
We start at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum nestled in the beautiful Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow. Its iconic building features standout architecture, and 22 galleries housed within it. This includes it’s much revered Egyptian Museum Glasgow and Dippy the diplodocus, as one of the few museums in Glasgow with dinosaurs.
You won’t have time to see it all on a quick day tour from Glasgow, so be sure to also earmark the French gallery to enjoy works from Renoir and Monet. Also make time to view the Spitfire LA 198 in one of the most stunning displays. Little ones will love it!
Next on the list is the Hunterian Museum at Glasgow University nearby. As you might expect from such an institution, this is Scotland’s oldest public museum. As such, it’s crammed with millions of artefacts, as diverse as its local history. Immerse yourself in artworks, learn about animal life, and much more.
End of the Tour
The final Glasgow tour stop comes courtesy of the Riverside Museum. On the edge of the River Clyde, this award-winning transport museum houses a brilliant display of transport-related items, from its very modern building and quirky spike appearance.
Here you can get to grips with Glasgow’s proud past, present and shipbuilding future, with over 3,000 objects on display. Ride a fire truck, jump on a bus – totally immerse yourself in Glasgow life.
As you conclude your Glasgow day tour, your driver will return you to Glasgow Square where it all began, a mere eight hours earlier!
